Estampie contemporaine (2006-7)

Duration: ca. 8′
Instrumentation: flute and percussion quintet
Composed for Marcela Defaria Casauban
Score

Estampie contemporaine is a virtuosic piece for flute solo and percussion quintet. The percussion has a stereo setup – two on the outside playing conga, two on the inside playing marimba and vibraphone, and one in the center playing tenor drum. The title refers to the medieval dance called an estampie, though it is not intended as a strict representation of that form.
